(Al) Bourgeois, Rhode Island. Al started in 1939 but it was 1952 before
the records show top flight pitching. He won the Rhode Island State Championship 10 times between 1956 and 1971. He took the Ma. Open title twice in six tries. He pitched in the New England Meet at least 10 times, coming close to the top a number of times. He was 3rd three times and 4th three times, averaging about 64%. His best year was 1967 when he won the Rhode Island State meet with a 74.1% and the Ma. Open with 68%. Al was the first player from New England in 20 years to qualify in Class A of the World Meet when he made it in 1968. Even though he only won three games out of 35 played he still averaged 64.6%. He has only pitched in a few tournaments since 1971 but he can still average over 60% when he does pitch. |
