James O'Shea, Brockton Ma. First award for the best horseshoe pitcher in New England, past or present was presented to James O'Shea of 81 North Leyden Street. He started pitching in 1930 and quit tournament pitching in 1948.

James won the Ma. State Championship seven times, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1937, 1938,1940, and 1941. Three of these years he averaged 81%, and in an all star match against best pitchers from New York, Jim averaged 84% for five games.

Jim won the New England Championships three times and he competed in three World Championships, qualifying for class A each time. In 1935 he finished 10th , winning fourteen and losing nine, averaging 65%. No records are available for 1937, but in 1948 at Salt Lake City he finished 5th averaging 78%. In 1938 Jim finished 8th in the Mid-West Ringer Round-Up, averaging 77.5%
